Hi kplastics, the best and most secure way to do this is to edit the Hosts file in Windows 10The Hosts file is located here:C:WindowsSystem32driversetcI have prepared a hosts file for you which will block all websites but the ones you want listed, open that file and edit it in Notepad, then replace the original Hosts File in Windows. At the top of that file you must list any websites you want to let through#allowed sites173.194.33.128 google.com#blah blah, more sites here Power to the Developer! MSI GV72 - 17.3', i7-8750H (Hex Core), 32GB DDR4, 4GB GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, 256GB NVMe M2, 2TB HDD.
I'm setting up a PC for a 5-year-old. The crew ps4 torrent. I want to allow access to the Internet to a handful of sites only. Tried IE Content Advisor, but it doesn't support blocking all (or I missed something). I tried the proxy method, where you set a fake proxy and make the required sites to bypass proxy.
I don't like this method as it blocks whatever other software that uses IE settings. No such option in Windows 7 parental control. BullGuard's parental control, has options to trust a site, but doesn't block all except few.Any other suggestions?
I found the answer to this one for IE only here:.Copy the following text into Notepad and save it as “ noaccess.rat” in the Windowssystem32 directory (or another directory of your choice). Be sure that the file extension is.rat and not.txt. You can download a zip file containing. ((PICS-version 1.0)(rating-system “““Noaccess”)(description “This file will block all sites.”)(category(transmit-as “m”)(name “Yes”)(label(name “Level 0: No Setting”)(description “No Setting”)(value 0))(label(name “Level 1: No Setting”)(description “No Setting”)(value 1)))).In the “ Control Panel” double-click on “ Internet Options” and click on the “ Content” tab. If in Internet Explorer, click on “ Tools” and “ Internet Options” and click on the “ Content” tab.Click “ Enable.”.Inside the “ General” tab click on “ Rating System.”.Remove all entries and click “ Add.” Add “ noaccess.rat” from the Windowssystem32 directory.Click on the “ Approved Sites” tab and add all the websites you wish to allow access to.Also, remember to tick off the box on Content Advisor - General - 'Users can see websites that have no rating.'
Block All Websites Except One Person
Obviously other browsers will ignore these settings, but in my case I did use Parental Controls to avoid this.
If it's OK to block access for everyone who uses that computer, you can edit the HOSTS file to non-approved websites, redirecting them to an IP address that doesn't exist (or, if you want to be annoying, redirect them all to something like ).As an admin, press Win+R and type%systemroot%system32driversetcin the dialog box, and press ENTER. On the list of files in Explorer, right-click on 'hosts', click 'Open With' from the context menu, and then open it with Notepad. Once you're in, you can edit it like this: #allowed sites173.194.33.128 google.com198.252.206.16 superuser.com#blah blah, more sites here#blocked sitesThis null-routes all TLDs (.com,.net, etc.) and only allows through whitelisted sites. To whitelist more sites, add a line for each website to the HOSTS file by putting the IP address of the website (see below), then a space, then the website name. Don't put 'in the name, or anything after the.com/.net/whatever TLD the website has.To find the IP of a website, first do Win+R, then 'cmd', then Enter. When the black box comes up, type ping and press Enter.
(Again, don't put 'or any of that stuff in.) Some stuff will show up, but what matters is the IP, which is in brackets: C:UsersMeping google.comPinging google.com 173.194.33.128 with 32 bytes of data:So Google's IP is 173.194.33.128.
If you use a firewall, block all outgoing requests except those for the website you want. You can try this, I haven't used it myself:Internet Options Connections LAN SettingsUse the localhost as proxy, or make up an IP that is impossible (use numbers above 255).In the setting 'Do not use proxy server for', add the website you want.edit:Make sure the default account is not Administrator (always do this anyway). Limit the user account so that these settings cannot be changed, that is, the user cannot access internet settings or the registry. There is all sorts of things users should not have access to, but there are plenty of resources available about locking down your systems, and this is well beyond the scope of this Q&A.
Block All Websites Except One
When you are using your computer for work in office or you are setting it up for your kids, then you may want to restrict the Internet access only to a few appropriate websites and block the rest of them. This way your office employees or kids would be able to access one or two websites and nothing else. It can be done very easily in Windows through the Parental Controls feature in Windows Vista, 7 and 8. Here is how:Note: You must be an administrator in Windows to follow these instructions. These instructions are for Windows 8, but they are similar in Windows Vista and 7. Press Win + R key combination to open the Run dialog. In the Run dialog, type control /name Microsoft.ParentalControls and press Enter.
This would open the Parental Controls section in the Control Panel. You would be able to see a list all the user accounts. Select one of the accounts for which you want to set the restrictions.
On Windows Vista and 7, if the Web Filter option does not appear for that user, then you may have to install on your PC before proceeding. In the following example we are going to select the user named Robert. Select On, enforce current settings to enable Parental Controls for that user. Then click on the Web filtering to open the web filter settings for that user. Choose User can only use the websites I allow and then click on Allow or block specific websites as shown in the following screenshot:. In the window that opens, you can add allowed websites to a list.
To add a website to the allowed list, type its domain name and then click on the Allow button. There is no need to add any sites to the block list. That’s it. After this the target user (Robert in our case), would be able to access only the allowed sites (the ones you added to the allowed list in the step 5 above). All other sites will be blocked automatically.
This restriction works for all web browsers and other applications.
