Finally, PCIe and Intel QLC 3D NAND in one SSD.The first QLC-based client PCIe SSD in the industry, the 660p SSD continuing Intel’s leadership in flash cell technology and quality manufacturing. The QLC technology enables higher storage density and lower cost per GB. The PCIe 3.0 x4 host interface delivers bus bandwidth up to 32Gbps that eliminates the bottleneck of SATA interface, taking you everyday computing experience to a new level. Meet today’s storage needs and prepare for the growing demands of tomorrow with the Intel SSD 660p Series.Available in 512 GB, 1024 GB and 2048 GB to suit your needs. Performance and Price That MattersThe SSD 660p hits the marks that matter for client SSDs. This drive is tuned to deliver a capacity optimized NVMe performance and deliver an intelligent storage option for mainstream and entry-level computing.Features At-a-Glance Model NameIntel Solid State Drive 660p SeriesCapacity (GB)1TBSequential ReadUp to 1,800MB/sSequential WriteUp to 1,800MB/sRandom Read (8GB Span)Up to 150,000 IOPSRandom Write (8GB Span)Up to 220,000 IOPSInterfacePCIe NVMe 3.0 x4Form Factor + HeightM.2 2280 @ 80mmWeight.

Pros:- I purchased one Terabyte of NVMe storage for just $99, I know things are getting cheaper but just 2 years ago I bought half the storage in SATA III form for about the same price!- It works faster than I even hoped!Cons:- It wasn't necessarily intuitive to install, although it was my first time installing the M.2 form factor. I had to figure out exactly how to make windows recognize it as a storage drive as well.- Did not come with the necessary screw to attach it to the MOBO. Luckily I had one laying around that came with my MOBO.Other Thoughts:- Certainly would recommend this product even for more than I purchased it. Just make sure you have the necessary screw already! Pros:Some reviews say the Write speeds are slow when the drive is 75% full. At 75% full the Intel 660p 1TB model still has a 25GB cache available to maintain Write speeds (2TB model has double that amount).
Solid State Drive Wiki
So, that's plenty of cache size unless you plan to sit there copying huge game files back and forth all day long. Who does that? Some reviews say the endurance is low. The 1TB model endurance rating is 200 TBW (TeraBytes Written).
If you Write 10GB of data every single day for a year (which is a very large amount for most users) that's 3.65TB per year, so it will take you 54 years to reach the max. Endurance of 200 TBW (the 2TB model has twice as much endurance).Another review said that the free cloning software didn't recognize his Intel 660p, and he had to spend $$ to purchase good cloning software. Please know that Macrium Reflect free version is good and highly effective for cloning and doing backups with all brands of SSD and HDD. Also, to make sure your new SSD is recognized for cloning, please remember to 'initialize' the SSD in Windows Disk Management, and format it (Quick format is OK). Then tell the cloning software to do a 'Refresh' scan for available drives. The 660p is twice as fast as a SATA SSD for the same price. It has plenty of endurance for most users. It has a full 5-Year Intel warranty.Add up these advantages and you'll realize this is a killer deal. Intel is redefining value for money in high-performance SSDs.Cons:None at the price.Other Thoughts:If you have a recent motherboard with an M.2 slot for NVMe (rather than just M.2 SATA) this is a true bargain SSD.
To make it compatible with older boards check out NVMe adapter cards here on Newegg. An adapter card lets you mount your SSD on the card. The card then plugs into a PCI-e X4 slot (or a spare x16 slot). This will allow the 660p to run at full speed, and only adds $20 or $30 to your overall cost. Pros:The 660p 1TB NVME SSD hardware is good for its price.Cons:The Intel Data Migration software can NOT detect it's own Intel 660p 1TB NVME SSD that was connected to my Dell laptop USB 3.1 port via ORICO NVME M.2SSD Enclosure Adapter, even though the Microsoft Disk Management software can detect and displace that same Intel 660p 1TB NVME SSD.
So, Intel data migration software can't detect it's own SSD, but Microsoft disk management software can. I was forced to buy a full version of Acronis True Image 2019 ($50) for cloning my Dell laptop Toshiba 256GB NVME SSD onto the Intel 660p 1TB NVME SSD. Don't buy this or any Intel-based SSD as it's own data migration software can't recognize it's own SSD.
The Intel tech support didn't solve the problem either! Pros:This is the first set of NVMe drives I've purchased for this computer. Definitely easier to setup and taking a lot less space than a SATA SSD/HDD.Cons:There are definitely faster NVMe drives out there, but the price and performance and speed definitely makes this a nice upgrade from people looking in to faster drives.
The only other minor issue is copying large groups of files, the sustainable speed does dip a bit of larger 250 GB (around the 70% mark) file copies from your SATA SSD.Other Thoughts:This is (when I bought it) a nice upgrade from a SATA SSD. It would be great for a regular desktop user or gaming user. The 1 TB is definitely awesome in terms of storage for programs. Some quick facts about this drive. It's a lot faster than your regular SATA drives with one small exception of when it's completely filled up but it doesn't compete well with the high performing nVMEs (95% of users won't be able to notice the difference). It uses two types of storage: SLC and QLC. When you're copying files, it copies it really fast onto SLC cache and then when the drive is idle, it writes that data onto QLC for long-term storage.
But if you fill your drive up greater than 75%, the SLC cache is reduced to 12 GB, so if you copy a file that's larger than 12 GB, the transfer speed will plummet after it crosses the 12 GB mark. (This SLC cache is much bigger when the driver is less filled up: 25 GB available at 60% filled up, 50 GB at 60%, 76 GB at 50%, ).It does have a lower endurance than common drives like the 860 EVO or Crucial MX500 but even this lower limit is already so high that 95% of users will never run into this issue. If you're not a video editor or somebody who's constantly pushing this drive to write 100GB a day, you won't notice the difference in life expectancy. It's warranty goes for 5 years of 100GBs a day.TL;DW: He goes through all the negatives of QLC, but then concludes the video saying it's essentially the power user enthusiast in him that doesn't like it and it's a great price performance for a regular consumer who's just using it to store data here and there with pretty fast read speeds. The one downside to consider with this drive is that is starts to lose some of its speed after it's 75% full, and loses a lot of speed once it's 90% full (most SSDs slow down a lot once they're 90% full though). It's due to how this drive uses the empty QLC storage as SLC cache to help read speeds, and once you get above 75%, you're starting to take away the storage it was using as SLC cache.
Just something to consider.I've been using this drive for a couple weeks now and have no complaints. It boots my games super fast, and my games wrote to the drive really fast.
Love the M.2 form factor with no cables needed. Turned on my PC after installing it without going into the BIOS, windows recognized it, formatted it, and it was good to go.
